The latest development surrounding HDTVs is the 3D Viewing Experience. Most of the big brands are releasing their take on 3DTV, each hoping to put their stamp on this new feature.

Research conducted by Nielsen and the Cable & Television Association for Marketing shows interesting results. The study called Focusing on the 3DTV Experience involved 425 people, who were each given a pair of 3D glasses to watch 30 minutes of 3D Television.

What Frank Stagliano, General Manager of TV Primary Research describes as a marketing challenge becomes even more apparent, with the number of consumers saying they were likely to buy a 3DTV in the next year dropping after they actually experience it, discover the additional costs, and realise the limited amount of content available.

With results like this being found already, both manufacturers and retailers need to prepare for a difficult time trying to convince consumers to splurge on 3DTV straight away – with one exception.

The study found that 71% of hardcore gamers said that they would be interested in playing video games in 3D, opening windows for diversification into this market
