should we all learn IT at uni?

When I left University I was competent in the use of Microsoft word, I could generally find what I was looking for on the Internet and I was able to touch type. My degree was not IT or technology based so those were the main computer related skills required to succeed. Granted, this was the bare minimum, but there hadn’t really been a need to learn more than that.

Brave the weather or shop from your sofa?

The mild weather the UK has enjoyed recently has all but come to an end, with a noticeable chill in the air.

In previous years, consumers had to brave the cold and the huge crowds to get their Christmas shopping done.

Writing about technology means I have to be an early adopter. Whatever is new or emerging, I need to be one step ahead of the game. While I’m not about to complain about all this, it does mean that I often move on before technology has had a chance to properly mature. Although hardware is usually complete out of the box, the software that makes the most of it can take some time to arrive.

I was reminded of this again as I revisited the iPad 2. I’ve been a long term fan of the iPad (particularly for families) but it wasn’t until this week that I realised just how good the device is when it comes to children’s bed time.

The Ebuyer.com £1 clearance sale has now ended. We have received an overwhelming response with an unprecedented number of visitors to our site. This resulted in delays for people trying to access the site and many customers informed us that they could not reach the sale page. Thousands of you attempted to purchase a £1 item; some items were limited in stock while other items had several hundreds units available.

We understand that many of our customers could not get their hands on these deals, resulting in a degree of disappointment. However, we will be running many more sales and promotions and customers can look out for plenty of amazing offers for the rest of this week and beyond.

Which do you prefer?

Since the success of the Swiss army knife, technology designers have been attracted to the idea of being all things to all people. For some the ever increasing list of features represents better value for money but for others it is in danger of diluting a device’s core function. Adding a USB storage stick to a pen knife broadens its appeal but does it make it a better knife?

Although I am a lover of gadgets crafted with just one function in mind, I use the most multifaceted technology everyday when I sit down at my computer. If I had a different machine for word processing, emailing and browsing I’d soon go mad.
