Facebook bigger than MSN in the UK
Last week saw Facebook reach figures of over 750 million users worldwide and now we hear that they have taken over MSN to become the UK’s second most popular site behind Google. This is a big milestone considering that MSN incorporates Microsoft’s web portal, Bing and Windows Live.
Research from UKOM / Nielsen shows that more than 27 million people from the UK visited the social networking site in May – almost half of the country’s population. Not only that but we stay on it for longer, rising from 5hrs 56mins in May last year to 6hrs 39mins May 2011.
Ashley Highfield, Microsoft’s UK MD, said that he was “not fussed” about Facebook overtaking MSN, mentioning that MSN was being re-focused as he was more interested the time people spent on MSN.
